Telenor Pakistan publishes its sustainability report for 2017-18
Telenor Pakistan, one of the country’s leading telecommunications operators, presented its 2017-18 Sustainability Report, which highlights the company’s transformative efforts towards the construction of Pakistan’s economy and society. By remaining true to its purpose of connecting people with what matters most and integrating the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into its core strategies and activities, Telenor Pakistan continues to make significant contributions to the country’s socio-economic progress.
The report delves into Telenor Pakistan’s investments in the country, in addition to the contributions it has made to the national treasury instead of direct and indirect taxes. It also provides information on the role of the company as one of the main employers in Pakistan with thousands of direct and indirect employees. The powerful social impact of Telenor Pakistan’s digital interventions on critical domains of life, such as agriculture, digital literacy, diversity and inclusion, the environment, human rights and ethics and compliance, is also one of the key points of the Sustainability Report.

Economic impact
According to the report, Telenor Pakistan has invested more than USD 4 billion and remains a responsible taxpayer who has made a tax contribution of more than PKR 310 billion to the national treasury in the form of direct and indirect taxes since its inception.
Telenor Pakistan is also a prominent employer that offers 1,600 direct jobs and more than 220,000 indirect and induced jobs to the people of Pakistan.
Social impact
The Sustainability Report also analyzes the Diversity and inclusion initiatives of Telenor Pakistan, Naya Aghaaz and Open Mind Pakistan. Naya Aghaaz, who aims to improve the skills of women who have been in a career break, has added 69 associates since its inception. In addition, 73 people with disabilities (PwD) have received job training at Open Mind Pakistan, Telenor Pakistan’s flagship inclusion initiative for people with different abilities.
According to the report, around 580,000 children had registered in five districts of Sindh and Punjab by the end of 2018 as part of the joint Telenor Pakistan-UNICEF Digital Birth Registration project, which aims to give children the right to identity. and, therefore, to access basic services. of life through the simplification of the birth registration process.
Significant progress in mobile agriculture has also been reported with the Maghri flagship service of Telenor Pakistan ‘Khushaal Zamindaar’ reaching a user base of 6 million farmers and women and the extensions of the ‘Khushaal Aangan’ program, ‘Khushaal Sehat ‘and’ Khushaal Maweshi ‘in being. Telenor Pakistan also made great progress in the face of climate and environmental change, by reducing energy consumption and CO2 emissions significantly at the organizational and client levels, while promoting the use of Green Energy by increasing the total number of solar sites at 51% in the last two years.
