Pakistanis say YouTube is the #1 online music and video platform. Karachi, November 25, 2022 – YouTube hosted its first YouTube Brandcast in Pakistan to celebrate the community of YouTube creators and share the latest insights, updates and inspiration from successful brands on the platform. At the Brandcast, YouTube also highlighted how the platform supports the Pakistani creator ecosystem by creating a trusted multi-format platform that enables creators to build local and global communities that meet the changing needs of their audiences.

According to Google and Kantar Unlocking Digital in Rural Pakistan research, YouTube is the most popular online video platform in Pakistan, with 62% of online Pakistanis aged 18-24 watching YouTube once a month or more.

In fact, of all Pakistani internet users, 91% say YouTube makes them feel positive, 78% turn to YouTube to watch their favorite shows and content, 76% have learned something new from YouTube, 75% say YouTube content helped them dig deeper. based on their interests, with 73% getting video content for all their statuses on the platform.

The same study found that 48% of rural Pakistanis are now online, of which 78% watch YouTube. Of those who watch YouTube, 76% say YouTube has unique content they can’t find anywhere else.

At the heart of YouTube are creators, who help build authentic connections by providing engaging personal content. Long or short, there’s something on YouTube to match. In the first quarter of 2022, video viewing time increased significantly compared to the same period last year. Digital marketing videos are up over 95%, web development videos are up over 90%, exercise videos are up over 80%, and live TV videos are up over eight times.

The total number of hours of content uploaded to YouTube by Pakistani channels from June 2021 to May 2022 increased by over 25% compared to the same period last year.

YouTube’s multi-format ads give creators every screen and every format possible to succeed

This healthy growth in content uploaded to YouTube includes short videos through YouTube Shorts, which launched last July. Globally, YouTube Shorts now average 30 billion views per day, four times more than a year ago. Short films have also been hugely successful in Pakistan, a testament to the changing preferences of Pakistanis in how they choose to consume content.

Marc Lefkowitz, YouTube Director of Development and Partner Management (APAC) added, “We have creators developing diverse content for podcasts, sketches, car reviews, tech reviews, tutorials, games and more. There are over 5,400 YouTube channels with over 100,000 subscribers. That’s a 35% increase over last year. Over 350 of these channels have over a million subscribers. The platform intends to continue supporting Pakistani creators so they can pursue their passions and build careers responsibly.”

As of June 2021, the number of YouTube channels generating revenue of PKR 1 million or more has grown by over 110% year-on-year. Whether you are a Pakistani from a remote village in Punjab or a metropolis like Karachi, YouTube has proven to be an effective medium of communication in Pashto, Sindhi, Punjabi, Balochi or Urdu; enabling ordinary Pakistanis to turn their passion into full-time careers.
