If you have not yet seen the final episode of the popularly popular Game of Thrones, you should have heard about what happened at the end of the series last Sunday. How is it possible that someone, in this era of the Internet, has not seen all those memes of Daenerys Targaryen addressing the rest of his army after setting fire to the entire King’s Landing?
Interestingly, Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys in the highly successful HBO drama, recently revealed that she was inspired by nothing more than Adolf Hitler for her speech in the final.
For those who have not yet seen the episode, Daenerys gives a speech to Dothraki and Unsullied after he burns thousands of innocents in a fit of rage at the King’s Landing, all hoping to reclaim the Iron Throne. The scene completed its transition to the “Mad Queen” that everyone was afraid it would become.
But what was really surprising is how Emilia delivered the moving speech in Dothraki, a fictional language. The British star remembered how nervous she was before shooting, adding that learning the speech “almost killed her”, since she was worried about ruining it.
No sequels to ‘Game of Thrones’ in the works: HBO
In fact, apparently, Emilia did not sleep anything the night before when she realized that this particular scene would be “the most solidary and integral moment for Daenerys as a character”.
The actor also revealed that the speech was filmed with only a green screen and his dialect coach was at close range. Fortunately, she excelled everything perfectly – at the first time, after watching videos of Hitler addressing the public during his time in the German government.
“You can absolutely understand what Hitler says, these single-focus speakers who speak a foreign language, so I thought, ‘If I can believe every word I’m saying, the audience will not have to look at the subtitles too much,’ Emilia told Variety.
But even though Emilia made the character of Daenerys complete justice with her epic performance in the last episodes, the result had divided Game of Thrones fans. Some, though less numerous, seemed to love the level of evil that the silver-haired queen had succumbed to.
But in general, we can not deny that we will miss seeing Emilia as Daenerys of the Targaryen House, the First of her Name, The Burned One, the Queen of the Andales, the Rhoynar and the First Men, the Queen of Meereen, Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, Protector of the Kingdom, Lady Regent of the Seven Kingdoms, Breaker of Chains and Mother of Dragons …
Call it on-the-nose if you must, but this shot of Emilia Clarke walking forward as a dragon’s wings seem to suddenly spread from her back is some Kubrick-level badassery. #GameOfThrones #GameOfThronesFinale pic.twitter.com/8ttWroSFHo
